Party on the Pitch

After a day of torrential downpours, Saturday arrived and with it came sunshine! It’s always a bit worrying when you’ve got a tonne of cake and an iffy weather report to contend with. Thankfully the British Summertime pulled through for us.

It was a bit of a treat to have a late event start time, normally we are up bright and early but today we got a lie in… just about.

We had a few favourites on the menu along with a new addition:

* Chocolate Orange Brownies
* Peanut Butter Cup Brownies
* Gluten Free Victoria Sponge Cupcakes
* Lemon Drizzle Cake
* Coffee + Walnut Cake
* Peanut Butter Goo Bar
* Salted Caramel Brownies

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the last item on the menu?

We combined our original brownie mix with an oozing layer of salted caramel, topped with the same and sprinkled with sea salt.

And yes, they are as good as they look.

With a start time of 2pm we arrived on site a couple of hours before and set up on the edge of the pitch with a good view of the stage.

Behind us; we were in the company of another vintage vehicle, a tractor giving rides around the field.

Our best seller of the day was the Gluten Free Victoria Sponge Cupcakes. It was a bit of a surprise as generally people seem to be put off by the “Gluten Free” prefix, but not today.   They literally flew off the counter.

As dogs were welcome at the event, we welcomed our four legged friends with a bowl of fresh water and free doggie treats for all the well behaved pooches that passed by.

As the sun was going down and the bands were getting louder, it was time for us to head home to some leftover cake and a well deserved brew.

We had a great time at Party on the Pitch and hope to be a part of it again next year!

Cake, Sunshine and Good Times

Summer has well and truly arrived. With the hottest July day ever on record this week, we knew we were on for a weekend filled with sunshine.

Taste of Hampshire 2015

It had been a busy week of prep at Martha’s Tea Party HQ. A full wash and wax for our lovely little van was on the cards on Wednesday, ingredient shopping on Thursday and a Bake-a-Rama on Friday. It had been a year since we were last at Taste of Hampshire and we were determined to make it there in our van this time! This photo was spotted in the Southampton Airport Magazine a few weeks ago 🙂

Saturday started early, and our Sat Nav took us on some rather interesting roads through Leckford. Thankfully it was 7:30am so we didn’t pass a single a car. We were on site by 8am and raring to go for 10am when the first visitors started arriving.

We had lots of yummy cakes on the menu:

* Victoria Sponge
 * Peanut Butter Goo Bar
 * Chocolate Nostalgia Cake
 * Peanut Butter Cup Brownies
 * Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes
 * Chocolate Orange Brownies
 * Lemon & Poppyseed Drizzle Cake
 * Rocky Road
 * Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Brownies

Our pitch was right by the entrance and we stuck a sign on the front of our van so people could see what we were selling without having to walk round to the front.

We’ll be checking the papers for coverage of the event during the week, but we already spotted this little write up on the Daily Echo online.

Our stand looked lovely with all the cakes in domes, the bunting and the fresh flowers, many people came and commented. Made the extra effort flower arranging the day before worth it.

We sold out of Victoria Sponge, Chocolate Nostalgia Cake and nearly out of Lemon Drizzle. The crowd were loving a slice of cake in the sunshine. We also nearly sold out of our Char Winchester Breakfast, think we’ll need to restock before the next event!

We had a truly brilliant day, thank you to everyone who came down to support us and say hello!

The South Wonston Village Fete

This weekend we were excited to be part of a local community effort here in South Wonston (where we are based). It was in aid of buying a defibrillator for use in the community. We wanted to get involved, but our usual Tea & Cake offering would have overstepped the mark with the local WI ladies. So we opted for Ice Cream – after all, what Village Fete would be complete without an Ice Cream. It’s practically an institution!

We set about finding a local-ish stockist of small tubs of ice cream and settled on Purbeck Ice Cream. Then it was just the small decision of picking which flavours we wanted to sell. We decided on…promoboard

* Serious Chocolate

* Clotted Cream

* Honeycombe Hash

* Strawberry Seduction

* Mint Choc Baby Chip

* Passion Fruit Sorbet

Then we had to decide our flavour split. We ended up favouring Serious Chocolate, Clotted Cream, & Honeycombe, and ordering lesser quantities of Strawberry, Mint Choc Chip and the Sorbet. A few days later our order arrived along with our promotional blackboard and we were ready to go – all we needed now was some nice weather.

The week leading up to the Fete was a scorcher, so we were a little disheartened to see the forecast for Saturday. But after a mega storm the night before, we were greeted with sunshine and cloudy skies all day (phew!).

We arrived early to find our pitch and set up the generator and decorate the van. We were eager to win the coveted ‘Best Dressed Stall’ award, so went to town with bunting and Honeycomb Paper Ice Creams. It paid off – because at about 4pm it was announced that we had won!

During the day there were some huge black clouds that passed over,  but they didn’t put off the crowds turning up to support the community.

We were parked up next to the friendly folk from Marwell Wildlife which made us look like we’d had a few exotic visitors…

menuandconeexoticvisitorsIt was a lovely opportunity to get involved in something positive for our local community and to talk to so many people who have seen us outside working on the van or driving her around over the last few months. All the feedback was brilliant, warmed our cockles it did.

We hope that everyone enjoyed the day and that lots of money was raised for the local community.
