Moving on up

It’s time to move forwards, and its time to try something a little different.

After many festivals, fairs, parties and more, we’ve decided to sell our Citroen H Van and focus more on our local business by taking on a shop lease.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a reliable vehicle for street food – you really couldn’t ask for much more than this one! She’s ready to rock and roll in whatever mode you are after – whether continuing her cake legacy, or moving onto more exotic foods.

You can find our classified ad on ebay or feel free to contact us directly…

Party on the Pitch

After a day of torrential downpours, Saturday arrived and with it came sunshine! It’s always a bit worrying when you’ve got a tonne of cake and an iffy weather report to contend with. Thankfully the British Summertime pulled through for us.

It was a bit of a treat to have a late event start time, normally we are up bright and early but today we got a lie in… just about.

We had a few favourites on the menu along with a new addition:

* Chocolate Orange Brownies
* Peanut Butter Cup Brownies
* Gluten Free Victoria Sponge Cupcakes
* Lemon Drizzle Cake
* Coffee + Walnut Cake
* Peanut Butter Goo Bar
* Salted Caramel Brownies

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the last item on the menu?
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL OUR LIVES?

We combined our original brownie mix with an oozing layer of salted caramel, topped with the same and sprinkled with sea salt.

And yes, they are as good as they look.

With a start time of 2pm we arrived on site a couple of hours before and set up on the edge of the pitch with a good view of the stage.

Behind us; we were in the company of another vintage vehicle, a tractor giving rides around the field.

Our best seller of the day was the Gluten Free Victoria Sponge Cupcakes. It was a bit of a surprise as generally people seem to be put off by the “Gluten Free” prefix, but not today.   They literally flew off the counter.

As dogs were welcome at the event, we welcomed our four legged friends with a bowl of fresh water and free doggie treats for all the well behaved pooches that passed by.

As the sun was going down and the bands were getting louder, it was time for us to head home to some leftover cake and a well deserved brew.

We had a great time at Party on the Pitch and hope to be a part of it again next year!

Cake, Sunshine and Good Times

Summer has well and truly arrived. With the hottest July day ever on record this week, we knew we were on for a weekend filled with sunshine.

Taste of Hampshire 2015

It had been a busy week of prep at Martha’s Tea Party HQ. A full wash and wax for our lovely little van was on the cards on Wednesday, ingredient shopping on Thursday and a Bake-a-Rama on Friday. It had been a year since we were last at Taste of Hampshire and we were determined to make it there in our van this time! This photo was spotted in the Southampton Airport Magazine a few weeks ago 🙂

Saturday started early, and our Sat Nav took us on some rather interesting roads through Leckford. Thankfully it was 7:30am so we didn’t pass a single a car. We were on site by 8am and raring to go for 10am when the first visitors started arriving.

We had lots of yummy cakes on the menu:

* Victoria Sponge
 * Peanut Butter Goo Bar
 * Chocolate Nostalgia Cake
 * Peanut Butter Cup Brownies
 * Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes
 * Chocolate Orange Brownies
 * Lemon & Poppyseed Drizzle Cake
 * Rocky Road
 * Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Brownies

Our pitch was right by the entrance and we stuck a sign on the front of our van so people could see what we were selling without having to walk round to the front.

We’ll be checking the papers for coverage of the event during the week, but we already spotted this little write up on the Daily Echo online.

Our stand looked lovely with all the cakes in domes, the bunting and the fresh flowers, many people came and commented. Made the extra effort flower arranging the day before worth it.

We sold out of Victoria Sponge, Chocolate Nostalgia Cake and nearly out of Lemon Drizzle. The crowd were loving a slice of cake in the sunshine. We also nearly sold out of our Char Winchester Breakfast, think we’ll need to restock before the next event!

We had a truly brilliant day, thank you to everyone who came down to support us and say hello!

Ho Ho Ho

Christmas is around the corner; Andover High Street has got into the Festive Spirit, so it’s time for us to do the same.

Nothing says Christmas more than a shed load of glitter!

Even our hatch is taking a break from bunting and getting in on the glittery action.

And then there’s the festive cupcakes… First up Christmas Tree Cupcakes. These were Vanilla Sponge topped with a tall green Vanilla Buttercream swirl and sugar baubles.

Next up, Yule Log Cupcakes. Vanilla Sponge topped with Vanilla Butter Cream and a Cadbury’s Chocolate log topped with Holly Berry Sprinkles and a dusting of icing sugar and edible glitter.

Finally, Reindeer and snowflake cupcakes. If its a whole year before we have to deal with Royal Icing again, it may be too soon. Royal Icing Snowflakes are beyond fragile. For the amount of successful cupcakes we managed, there must have been about 4 broken snowflakes.

We think they looked awesome all boxed up together.

The temperature is dropping, so be sure to stop by for a piping hot brew and a box of festive cupcakes to take back to work to celebrate 🙂 They will be available to order right up until the 23rd December for deliveries before Christmas.

All Hallows’ Eve

happyhalloween

So it wasn’t quite Halloween, but the day before we took our selection of spooky treats to Andover Market. Here at Martha’s Tea Party we pretty much look for any excuse to dress up, be it an event like halloween or just every Thursday in a spotty dress – because, why not?

The people of Andover need to eat more cake

We had been all over picking up decorations for our Citroen H Van. We went pumpkin picking at Bourne Valley PYO, we got some amazing decorations in ASDA (seriously impressed) and there were some things we’ve just had knocking about since time began.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time to carve our pumpkin, so thank goodness for Sharpie!

We had a selection of ghoulish cakes on offer ready for our Halloween Spooktacular…

Blood Red Velvet Brownies (Gluten Free)
Ghoulish Jam Filled Vanilla Cupcakes
Spooky Vanilla Cupcakes
Creepy Chocolate Cupcakes
Franken-Rocky Road

We also had our Peanut Butter Cup Brownies, because if we didn’t there would be a lot of unhappy customers!

So our van was looking great, we had some spooky sounding cakes on the menu, but what good is spooky sounding cakes if they don’t look the part?

Some of you may spot that we even had some classic Point Horror on the go that week too, we take Halloween VERY seriously.

Unfortunately, we have a bit of an early start on a Thursday so didn’t have time to get dressed up ourselves, but some people may have taken amusement in the amount of selfie’s taken during the day when the head gear for our Halloween party attire turned up from the amazing Rosadior. One floral headband worn two ways…

bydaybynightIt may have been too spooky for some if we looked like the latter during the day.

Having said that we love dressing up, we are not planning on shoving Christmas down your throat quite yet, we’ll give you a few more weeks before we start wearing antlers to the market and selling mince pies. We’ll leave that to the big coffee chains for now.

Remember if you are after any cakes in particular, feel free to drop us a message on Facebook or via our Contact page, we hate to see disappointed faces when we have sold out!

Another Day, Another Tea Party

It almost feels like a lifetime ago, but on what was to become one of the last days of summer we attended a Corporate Tea Party on the edge of the New Forest.

corporateteaparty

Armed with gingham tablecloths, a whole host of vintage china, our delicious Char Teas and of course our delightful Citroen H Van, we turned a meeting room into a delightful space for a tea party.

Inside we laid up all the tables with crockery, whilst outside our Citroen H Van was parked up decorated with bunting and all the delicious cakes were on show.

On the menu we had quite a selection:

Chocolate Brownies
Rocky Road
Lemon Brownies
Mini Victoria Sponges
English Madeleines
Mini Vanilla Cupcakes

With the event expecting around 100 people that was ALOT of cake! At the event there was a self-service tea station, fully stocked with our selection of Char Tea and outside the cakes were served on our vintage side plates.

We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather, it was a typical late summers day with temperatures in the high teens and sunbeams coming through the leaves on the trees.

It was a lovely day to see out the last of the summer sun, can’t wait until it returns next year!
